Glasnost

Glasnost means ‘openness’ and is a Russian word that was introduced as a slogan in 1986 by Mikhail Gorbachev at the 27th Party Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. It led to the end of the Soviet Union and the Iron Curtain.

This composition represents that openness by featuring several well-known Russian melodies in a modern version. It includes the national anthem, several folk songs and a theme by Tchaikovsky.
